Take Back the Night (TBTN) Coordinator

Duration of Contract: 7 months, May-November
SACHA is looking for a feminist woman or non-binary person to coordinate this year’s Take Back the Night in Hamilton. TBTN is a powerful opportunity for survivors and their supporters to actively build connections, assertively reclaim our right to safety, and courageously stand up against sexual violence.
Since 1975, SACHA has worked to support survivors of sexual assault and worked to prevent violence and oppressions.
What is involved:
- Organizing event logistics of TBTN
- Chairing a volunteer coordinating committee
- Liaising with City of Hamilton and Hamilton Police Services as well as many other community organizations
- Coordinating volunteers to help with acquiring donations, event promotion, consciousness raising, evaluations, community tables, and general event logistics.
- Ensuring the event is run smoothly, safely, and that participants and volunteers have a great experience.
- Creating a report with repeatable structures and a calendar of tasks.
- Other duties as they arise
Qualifications:
- Intersectional feminist anti-racist/anti-oppressive analysis
- Knowledge of the issue of sexual violence
- Able to work within SACHA’s Vision and Mission
- Experience organizing large events, meeting and group facilitation, coordinating volunteers, and liaising with community organizations
- Strong communication skills – written and verbal
- Access to a car an asset but not required
- Ability to manage the event budget
Work environment:
The TBTN Coordinator would be able to create their own hours with most of the work being in late August and September. Take Back the Night usually happens the third Thursday of September. Workspace is available in SACHA’s office if needed/wanted. This position will work in collaboration with and be responsible to SACHA’s Public Education Coordinator.
Rate of pay: This is a part-time contract paying $8000.
Timeline: The hiring committee will be interviewing a candidate April 17th, 23rd, and the 24th in the morning. The position will start in early May and end in November and will require a flexible work schedule including some evenings.
