Take Back the Night (TBTN) Coordinator

Dura­tion of Con­tract: 7 months, May-November

SACHA is look­ing for a fem­i­nist woman or non-bina­ry per­son to coor­di­nate this year’s Take Back the Night in Hamil­ton. TBTN is a pow­er­ful oppor­tu­ni­ty for sur­vivors and their sup­port­ers to active­ly build con­nec­tions, assertive­ly reclaim our right to safe­ty, and coura­geous­ly stand up against sex­u­al violence.

Since 1975, SACHA has worked to sup­port sur­vivors of sex­u­al assault and worked to pre­vent vio­lence and oppressions.

What is involved:

  • Orga­niz­ing event logis­tics of TBTN
  • Chair­ing a vol­un­teer coor­di­nat­ing committee
  • Liais­ing with City of Hamil­ton and Hamil­ton Police Ser­vices as well as many oth­er com­mu­ni­ty organizations
  • Coor­di­nat­ing vol­un­teers to help with acquir­ing dona­tions, event pro­mo­tion, con­scious­ness rais­ing, eval­u­a­tions, com­mu­ni­ty tables, and gen­er­al event logistics.
  • Ensur­ing the event is run smooth­ly, safe­ly, and that par­tic­i­pants and vol­un­teers have a great experience.
  • Cre­at­ing a report with repeat­able struc­tures and a cal­en­dar of tasks.
  • Oth­er duties as they arise

Qual­i­fi­ca­tions:

  • Inter­sec­tion­al fem­i­nist anti-racist/an­ti-oppres­sive analysis
  • Knowl­edge of the issue of sex­u­al violence
  • Able to work with­in SACHA’s Vision and Mission
  • Expe­ri­ence orga­niz­ing large events, meet­ing and group facil­i­ta­tion, coor­di­nat­ing vol­un­teers, and liais­ing with com­mu­ni­ty organizations
  • Strong com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills – writ­ten and verbal
  • Access to a car an asset but not required
  • Abil­i­ty to man­age the event budget

Work envi­ron­ment:

The TBTN Coor­di­na­tor would be able to cre­ate their own hours with most of the work being in late August and Sep­tem­ber. Take Back the Night usu­al­ly hap­pens the third Thurs­day of Sep­tem­ber. Work­space is avail­able in SACHA’s office if needed/​wanted. This posi­tion will work in col­lab­o­ra­tion with and be respon­si­ble to SACHA’s Pub­lic Edu­ca­tion Coordinator.

Rate of pay: This is a part-time con­tract pay­ing $8000.

Time­line: The hir­ing com­mit­tee will be inter­view­ing a can­di­date April 17th, 23rd, and the 24th in the morn­ing. The posi­tion will start in ear­ly May and end in Novem­ber and will require a flex­i­ble work sched­ule includ­ing some evenings.
