Goodbye and Thank You Emily

I have had the immense priv­i­lege of work­ing at SACHA as a coun­sel­lor for the past year and a half.

SACHA is my favourite work-home in the world. I acci­den­tal­ly found out about vol­un­teer­ing here in 2014 and it changed my life com­plete­ly. A lot of the injus­tice in the world hadn’t made a lot of sense to me because I did not have a suf­fi­cient analy­sis of pow­er and how it works in this cis-nor­ma­tive patri­ar­chal white set­tler cap­i­tal­ist society.

Thanks to the incred­i­ble teach­ing of Miri­am, the vol­un­teer co-facil­i­ta­tors and my fel­low vol­un­teers, I learned more about why things are the way they are, as well as how they could look, if we were to make sig­nif­i­cant change.

Sup­port­ing sur­vivors of sex­u­al vio­lence is an immense hon­our and respon­si­bil­i­ty. I feel very, very proud of the work done at SACHA. And one of the things I love best is the way every­one sup­ports every­one else in their per­son­al lives. So, when I met my part­ner ear­li­er this year, every­one was so love­ly and excit­ed for me. In order for us to be togeth­er, I am going to be mov­ing to Hous­ton, Texas, where she works for the Hous­ton Grand Opera. It will be quite the task to find a work-home that is as strong, brave, joy­ful and rev­o­lu­tion­ary as SACHA, but I look for­ward to the challenge.

I feel equipped to do my best work con­tin­u­ing to fight the fight for sur­vivors, and every­one who expe­ri­ences vio­lence and oppres­sion in this world, and thank you all for your sup­port of me, and of the work done at SACHA.
